Green Is In

Prior to providing our readers with some new information, the last week has been quite interesting reading comments related to the Synthes post. It seems that every time that TSB posts about this company, the animus and venom that is spewed about Synthes is fascinating. Turbulence causes angst, anxiety, and a sense of losing control, indicative by the many comments from our readers. Yes, fellow readers, it seems that the Cafe Pharmaites found a new venue to spew their venom. How dysfunctional can one company be? Maybe its time for some of their employees to listen, hear what they are listening to, contemplate and be reflective upon what they sound like to those of us that do not have the honor of working in that culture. But on to the news.

Hyperbranch Medical Technology announced the launch of their Adherus Spinal Sealant, known as the Green Peppa of spinal sealants. Colors seem to be a selling feature when it comes to these technologies witnessed by the Blue Goo that Confluent markets and sells. Hopefully Confluent can wake up and know that a new addition in the marketplace will make their job a little tougher when it comes to marketing and selling their product.

The Adherus has been proven to stop cerebral spinal fluid leaks and maintains a seal under high pressure. It is also being marketed as a adhesion barrier. Now the challenge will be for those at HMT not to get too crazy when it comes time to forecast their revenue expectations considering that most dural tears of the spine occur in revisions, and most our readers can attest that the number of revisions are nowhere near the number that many marketing/data reports convey. So in closing, Green in In and Blue is Goo.

On a lighter note one of our readers recently complained that the blog hasn't been updated enough. You have two options, start your own blog (competition is good for the market) or stop whining, unless you're willing to pay TSB to do this on a full time basis. At least we offer everyone a forum, regardless whether you agree with what is posted or not.

  1. I have an ideal solution, TSB, why don't you start accepting advertising? With the multitude of companies in this space vying for the fleeting attention of distributors and customers, I am sure there would be interest.
That way, you could be paid for your troubles.

You have a unique property and attract a hard-to-reach audience - it would seem natural. I won't even ask for a commission on my great idea!

  2. Then he may have to reveal the (presumably) man behind the tights. I don't think any of us know each other that well yet.

  3. each and everyone of us should stop and ask ourselves this:
Do we provide a true service to our customers?
Does our product really benefit the patient above and beyond another manufavturers product?
if our company folded tomorrow would doctors and patients be any worse off?
I BELIEVE it is a privlege to do what we do, and the moment we become all about numbers and quotas we should go sell automobiles or something of that sort..

  4. MM, is that reference to CafePharmaites the same entity you recently referred to as "Cafepharma or whatever the site is called" as though you've never heard of it and don't read it. You lost a little credibility when you tried to play too cool for cafepharma guy. There is no way you would avoid reading the message boards on that site - a savy internet guy like yourself. Come on now!

  5. 5:55 AM - I MM was using the suffix "ites" to describe a group of people that read CafePharma.
Some examples of words that use the -ite suffix:
    -Isrealite
    -Jacobite
    -Luddite

  8. referencing the Cafepharmaites implies that he knows who they are and what they're all about. Does MM only know about them thru the grapevine? I think not.

  10. Thanks for the compliment. Our intent is to keep it alive. We are currently exploring different options and discussing the possibility of introducing other bloggers. Until then, blog on!

  11. MM, I've noticed you haven't offered any insight into the future of implantable devices if healthcare in the US shifts to "come any, come all" as many suspect it will, do you anticipate the demise of "reps" and individual hospitals dealing directly with the manufacturers? Love your site!

  12. I believe MM carries around one of those fifi dogs in his man-purse, hence the first-person plural.

  16. Adherus = DuraSeal knock off

Also, its a good couple years away from receiving US approval, not as if that stops some surgeons but this product still has a long way to go. If they get some sort of clearance as an adhesion barrier this product would KILL though...

  17. Adherus has some of the same scientists from Confluent back in the day. The european product looks very promising as it sets up in a wet field differently from the "dry" application that is needed for the blue goo. If they go to market correctly they'd give the Covidien mothership quite a run for their money. God knows they've been milking the blue goo since they picked it up in 07'
