Bacterin: The Company that take a Lickin' and Keeps on Tickin'

Dear Department of Justice:

From the Bacterin Website, click on Healthcare Professionals, scroll down to Opportunities and click on that:

"Bacterin has assembled a vast group of surgeons from throughout the country to assist us with training other surgeons on Bacterin products, working with research and development personnel to develop new products, and providing consultation as requested. We have established an excellent core of surgeons, each with extensive expertise in their respective areas including Foot and Ankle, Spine/Neurosurgery, Sports Medicine and general orthopedics which will cover trauma, oncology and pediatric disciplines.

If you are interested in being a consultant for the company or performing a clinical study utilizing Bacterin products, you know what Bob Barker use to say, Come on down."

Oh, and by the way we raised, $9.2 million dollars to expand the sales forces and to use as working capital.

Spine Nation: I don't believe I have ever seen anything as brazen as this, what do our readers think?

  3. To anyone who has dealt with Bacterin, this type of conduct should be no surprise. After resorting to a Reverse IPO, they now seem to be asking for "consultants" to "train" other surgeons. ( On how to place milled allograft or sprinkle crushed cancellous?) They truly do not see anything wrong with this..or bypassing their agents to go direct.

In their world this is all OK.

I cannot wait to listen to the August 10 earnings announcement. I hope the Board and Middlebury listen closely.

  5. I want to be a consultant, how much are they willing to pay me to put their sponge in all my patients? We can become like the NBA, pay me to use and market your product. How about like golfers, I'll wear their logo on my lab coat. You have to be kidding.

Your on to something!! How about "pimp" out your lab coat like NASCAR. No disrespect if you are a surgeon-just these idiots would fight for positioning of the logo. Capitalism baby-ill market you (for a small fee of course).

  7. Funny,

Nuva gives out clothing merchandise with their logos. And yes I have seen surgeons wearing this garbage.

  9. Good one Anon 10:30!

You can also donate to the cause. Wonder if they have a realtionship to donatelife? Sorry, I was born yesterday.

    Become a Donor
Many people are aware of the ability to donate vital organs to save lives, such as donation of your heart, lungs, or liver. What many may not be aware of is that you can also donate your musculoskeletal system which includes bones, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and skin. Unlike organ donation which requires specific cross-matching between donors and recipients, tissue donation does not involve blood cells thus a cross-match is not required. Donated tissue also has a longer window for transplant than organs as it can be stored for a specified period of time.

While these grafts may not save a life, they are vital in helping patients return to healthy, active lifestyles and enjoying the things they love the most. Bacterin International works with the donation of the musculoskeletal system.

Making the decision to give the gift of donation is one of the most selfless things you can do. Please take the time to learn about organ and tissue donation and visit www.donatelife.net.

  10. Forget AdvaMed! Join our new industry organization, PayDaMD. As the founding company of this organization we have decided to get back to the old ways and not try to hide behind the guise of complying with the anti-kickback statute. Show the industry how big your cahunas are and join with us.

  11. Off the Bacterin Management site:

"Darrel L. Holmes, the Vice President of Medical Devices, has over 25 years experience in the medical device and diagnostic industries. He previously served as Director of Operations for American Qualex, HYCOR Biomedical and Stratagene (now Agilent Technologies), and as Executive Vice President and COO of Big Spring Water company. Since joining Bacterin International, Inc. in 2003, Mr. Holmes has assumed responsibilities for all aspects of medical device design and development, R&D, process scale-up, production, and distribution. He is also responsible for the establishment and maintenance of an FDA CFR Title 21 Part 820-compliant medical device quality system. Mr. Homes has worked with numerous regulatory agencies at the federal, state, and local level, and is the primary regulatory interface for Bacterin’s medical device division. At the corporate level, he oversees and coordinates ISO 13485:2003 compliance, facilities, engineering, IT, and environmental health and safety programs. He directs the design, purchase, validation and implementation of capital assets for the company, and is responsible for strategic planning, and developing and administering division-level budgets"

So the guy is responsible for division-level budgets, who f**king cares. That doesn't belong on a management bio. The best is that he is responsible for "distribution initiatives" (Sales) and also is the "primary regulatory interface" for the company. Too funny.

How snowed are Middlebury Securities to give these guys cash? Can't wait for that August 12 conference call!

  12. Middlebury cannot be stupid. They may have an agenda to take over the company as soon as the curtain is pulled back on Cook's competency. Now there is oversight from a Board. Great products, bad management. August 10th.

  17. Now now children, lets not lose sight of the purpose of this topic today, that is the in-your-face solicitation/advertising for paid customers oops I mean consultants and trainers.

    Clueless they are.

  18. Let me become a donor so that some blood sucking investor/scumbag can make money off of me for the love of enhancing someone's quality of life. I get it, yeah, sure. My impression from reading this blog is that if its up to investors, the salesperson would be cut out of the picture, and of course they would make all the profits because their capital contributed to the success of the company. You've got to love America, and you wonder why manufacturing is outsourced oversees, people are unemployed and the economy nearly collapsed. All for the love of profits.

  19. Try the guys in Plano TX, they would put any shit into any human being all for the love of money, oops, I mean science.

  21. This is Bacterin's third listing on TSB. Is there any other CEO (title loosely used) who inspires a more vitrolic response from those he has had contact with? I think not.

Glad there is finally oversight. The countdown starts August 10th.

  22. Kenneth Lay is the only other one I can think of.

  23. Regardless of their surgical discipline, how does a company like Bacterin justify having 28 Scientific Advisors? Is this the norm in this industry? How much revenue does this company generate? I would be interested in knowing this for various reasons.

  24. in a world where local distributors sales pitch to a surgeon is "how would you like to make 50K extra a month?" the DOJ SHOULD be really busy but it just keeps on going...and going....

Hey why not they can and ARE getting away with it..

Their numbers and performance will now be public information. For such a new and small company it is amazing so many in this industry have such negative perceptions and apparently justly deserved.

  30. TSB: It looks like this well of venom has run dry. Time to write something else so we can all lament about how awful everyone is in this industry.

    PS
I hate you all and most of us are scum and will burn in hell. I know thieves and car salesmen with more integrity and dignity than the lot of filth I'm forced to work with and provide services to (yes, this means you doctor)...

This industry is suppose to be the holy grail of sales and service. What a fraud of frauds. It's crap. After nearly 20 years, I can see that it is all just disgusting... I'm out.

  31. Little Bacterin represents all that which is bad in this industry as seen by the ferocity of negative opinions.

The curtain starts to gets pulled back tomorrow August 10th. The first Bacterin meeting open to public scrutiny.

Time for a new topic, enough on this "company". Adios

    ReplyDelete
  32. I see that Bacterin has changed the wording on the opportunities page to not be so "greasy". Damage is done dipsh*ts.

  33. No more bellyaching. Lets see if the normal market dynamics will now eventually change this company.

  35. It's a blog, if you don't like what's written don't read it. Obviously, you must spend a lot of time on this blogsite cutting and pasting your little rants. By the way, you probably spend a lot of time at the grocery store reading the National Enquirer.

  37. 1:34 You got that right. Now they are engaging POD's. Bob Faggart and Guy Crook that is. Yes, Hell if your a POD, give em a call. One of those two guys will hop on a plane and fly right to see you if you'll promise em the business. Play your cards right and you can end up with some of that worthless paper they call stock in exchange for sending over some business. Oh, you already distributors in your area, no worries. they don't offer exclusive territorial contracts so they will sign you up as well!

  38. As it turns out the Feds did go after them on this. But it is simply the tip of the iceberg. I'm pretty sure that as the Feds go digging a little deeper they will also discover the dummy sales corporation set up under Bacterin's CEO's son to which millions of dollars worth of product was dumped at the last minute prior to release of new sales figures. The product simply disappeared but the sales figures looked good.
