Independence Day - July 4th

Today commemorates the day that these United States adopted and declared its independence from the United Kingdom, July 4th, 1776.  It would be interesting to gauge the reaction of our Founding Fathers if they could see the evolution of their Declaration. Who are we? What have we become as a Nation? How many people have actually read the Declaration in its entirety?  How many have reflected on the meaning of those words? Originally intended to declare our independence, this document is also a statement on human rights. The following words alone speak volumes,

"We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

These words did not ring truth when the Declaration was signed.  The irony was  that there was contradiction in those words, "all men are created equal." Hypocrisy? Perhaps. Jefferson himself owned slaves at a that time, potentially echoing the old expression, "do as I say, not as I do." But isn't that a coat of arms that all politicians love to wear? As in the days of the American Revolution leading to the signing of the Declaration, today, we have our own kings who believe that they have inalienable rights. There should be no checks nor balances. No restrictions in doing whatever they desire. Wrapping themselves in their American Flag lapel pins, declaring their patriotism, love of God, family and money.  Yes fellow bloggers, there are many kings in our industry who believe in their own divine right. There lies the challenge in a world that is constantly changing as to what are your natural or legal rights. As the world morphs from nation states to market states, a world based purely on commerce, the founding fathers would be fascinated that we are not modifying nor amending our laws to create more checks and balances than what they intended.

In the past we depended on laws and regulation, today there is no assurance of equality but a maximization of wealth by those in power.  Globalization is screaming for a new global constitution, a global declaration to find balance and order in a chaotic world.  As market states open new opportunities, it makes everyone vulnerable. Jobs are outsourced, manufacturing is outsourced, all for the love of the Almighty Dollar and shareholder value. The financial meltdown of 2008 has been validated by the tremors that still exist on a global level, especially in the fragile European markets.  It is for this reason alone that government must adapt and create a new Declaration. As the financial sector downsizes its workforce, moving services to India, Malaysia, or the deep south, as average Americans lose confidence in the markets every time something new comes up, America loses. In many respects we have lost our integrity. We have lost our moral character, we no longer possess a code of conduct. 

So today, as you break open a cold beer, and BBQ whatever it is that you desire, and go to your local fireworks display, think of how lucky you are that we do have freedom in an imperfect world. TSB wishes everyone a Happy Fourth of July!

The Declaration's final impetus was a TAX on one product, tea. Today, Obama yearns to TAX our every move! We are not Eurotrash sheep, this new gigantic TAX will be fought.

  4. TSB, we have morphed into a new set of unalienable rights that includes: life, according to the death panels mandate, trying to keep the government from taking more liberties, and the pursuit of disability checks.

    1. There are no death panels in the Obama health care bill. That is a fact. You maybe need to switch the channel, and stop listening to lies.

      I'd also like to point out that EVEN IF THERE WERE DEATH PANELS in the law, nothing would actually change, since right now the Death Panel is run by your insurance company. Trust THEM, do you?

  5. More liberal code: Our nation is evil, flawed, etc because our founders owned slaves. We paid for it with 680,000 deaths in the Civil War as atonement and we eventually got it right. Red white and blue lift-me-up on the 4th MM!

  7. The Republican Party freed the slaves from the Democrat Party, it's a historical fact. I hope the modern spaghetti-spined GOP can free us again from Democrat oppression of Obamacare, but it doesn't look good. Don't tread on me!

    Ron Paul got it right when he said they we live in a mild form of fascism and he blamed the military and medical industrial complexes. We will never have innovation and a war on disease so long and medicine is commercialized and corporatized.

    Like Jefferson and the rest of our founding fathers we too need to end the tyranny.

    The "robber barons" were industrialists and businessmen in the US during the late 19th and early 20th century. They were so called because their methods of enriching themselves were equated to feudal lords of medieval Europe, who stole from both travelers and serfs. The business methods they employed were widely viewed as illegal, immoral, unethical, or corrupt, taking every advantage over workers and consumers, and with little regard for anything but profit. Some of these became the wealthiest, most influential, and most famous individuals of their day, and their fortunes have enriched their descendants for generations.

    On this 4th of July let's remember our fallen patriots and the tyrants they defeated. Today's tyrants and their cruel exploitation of disease are far worse than King George and Louis the 16th and also require a visit to the guillotine.

    1. That song was written by Ronnie Van Zant and another guy from Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1973. Kelly was born in 1982.. Moving Pictures was an album by Rush.

    2. I think you are confused. You may be thinking of Phil Collins from the super group Foghat, he wrote the song, "Tom Sawyer"which was from the 1953 album "Dark Side of the Moon". They are both so very often confused with the lyrical stylings of Miss Kelly Clarkson....

    And stop talking about slaves. It's bullshit to speak of slaves as if they were unique too American history. It is our past, yes, but how many other countries, societies, or empires have similar if not worse atrocities. It does not make it right but get the F over it! In fact if your so concerned then stop living in the past and pay attention to the present! Check out the horrible atrocities in Somalia TODAY if you really give a shit about slavery! We are all FREE in this country to whine and cry about shit that never happened to us or we could live in the present and do something productive. You can also move the F away if you don't like the country you live in. Try France, England, Russia or China...no past histories there.

The law mandates that you wear seatbelts, the law mandates that you have liability car insurance in case of an accident, why shouldn't the law demand that you have some type of healthcare insurance to protect yourself from catastrophic illnesses? Who made that statement? You just may be in for a surprise. The reason we cannot sit down and edit this law is because fringe elements like the insane commentator have no rational thoughts or processes. It's my way or the highway. Ever wonder why this economy sucks? Ever wonder why average citizens don't believe in the markets, ever wonder why?

  19. I believe my tax dollars, in the hands of politicians, will never get to the people that really need it. I make better choices with my money, like when I go to a strip club. I make sure I put my dollars in the g-string of the girl that's working her way through medical school. That way when she graduates, you sales reps can have somewhere to "sell" your cervical plates and screws...Then again I could be wrong, I still use a butter knife to retrieve delicious pop-tarts from the toaster when they get stuck. When will I learn?
