Stryker Recalls Reflex Hybrid Anterior Cervical Plates

The FDA reported that the mighty Stryker Spine had to initiate a nationwide recall of 38,987 Anterior Cervical Plates and 109,572 Self-Drilling and Self-Tapping Screws for a noted design flaw. The problem was identified when the "All-in-One" Drill Guide did not prevent over angulation of screws in the plate. I guess the almighty Stryker will have to go back to their manufacturing plant and engineering department and flog the little people.

Tim Scannell is finding out that running a Spine Company with mediocre talent is harder than playing pulling guard for Lou Holtz at Notre Dame! Wasn't that a mediocre team?

  1. This happened a few years ago, didn't it? Or is this another recall?

  4. This isn't accurate. I enjoy your blog, however I think you have an obligation to provide some data or factually information to support your claim.

  5. How do I find out who manufactured the two titanium screws in my neck at C-4 which are broken? Had surgery Oct 2009. Had repair surgery due to piercing pain and imaging showed broken screws on June 24, 2010 a few weeks ago. BTW 4 of my screws are seated at cross angles like an "X" not sure why he did not place all in a 90 degree normal placement. I changed surgeons for 2nd surgery. I am considering a possible law suit, so any help here would be appreciated. I am not experiencing returning arm pain, so wish I had looked into alternatives deeper. I did get two opinions and both said I must have surgery, but what else are spine surgeons going to tell you, right?

  7. I had ACDF in Oct 2009. All ok until May when had excrutiating neck pain in the C-4 area of initial surgery. Had no trauma whatsoever just woke up one am with it. Xray revealed 2 broken screws and 1 coming loose. I had to have corrective surgery by another surgeon June 24 and still have neck pain and arm pain two plus months later. Does anyone know if this is grounds for lawsuit against either Surgeon or manufacturer? Thanks.

  8. I had an L5S1 fusion in 2003. One of the titanium screws broke and I have had 2 additional surgeries since. (2006 and 2007). Do you know if there is a class action suit against the maker of spinal titanium screws or how to go about initiating one?

    1. Yes, I most definitely know. I have a piece of it in my neck! Evidently, it appears that neither doctor nor company notified patients of recall and possibility if injury. I certainly wasn't notified and found out quite by accident. I am looking for more instances of this happening to another patient.I will be posting more information soon, should you be in the same situation as I.
